Weekend #3

And just like that, another fun filled week-end is over. I met a lot of new AuPairs and we discovered a lot of new parts of London.

On Friday evening, I went to one of Kingston's pubs for the first time. Two other AuPairs and I met up at the Kingston train station and from there on we just went around Kingston and looked for a nice pub to end the day. At the end, we ended up in a pub right opposite the street from Kingston's club. A lot of students and people our age were there but surprisingly a couple of older people were there as well as the pub reminded a bit more of a club with its music and dance floor. At first, we sat down, had a couple of cocktails (they were rather cheap: 2 pitchers for 12pounds) and got to know each other. With one of the girls, Saskia, I have some crazy things in common: we are both from Frankfurt, we both went to the Southside Festival before we came to London, and we both lived in Bluffton, SC for some time and she also went to BHS for some weeks! 

After that we danced for one or two hours and then went around Kingston as well to get something to eat. It was a very fun evening and I met two awesome girls. Luckily, the bus that I take to and back from central Kingston goes 24 hours, so I came back home at around 2AM and went straight to bed. 

On Saturday morning I woke up at around 9AM and had to get dressed and ready for the day, as I wanted to meet up with Sara, an Italian AuPair,  in Camden Town at 12PM and I knew that it would take me a bit more than an hour to get there. Unfortunately I arrived a bit late and when I exited the tube station, it was even raining a bit. And smart as I am, I didn't have an umbrella on me either. 

Camden is a part of London and very famous for its market. There are a lot of vintage shops there as well as a lot of different food. We first went around the market and looked around the vintage jewellery, bags and clothing,´. And fortunately, that part of the market is in a warehouse, so the rain didn't really bother us. And when we got to the food stands outside the rain had already stopped.
During the afternoon we met up with Saskia and a friend of hers and we showed them around the Camden market and we then went to Oxford Street for some dresses for later that night. We wanted to go out clubbing but unfortunately when I got home to get dressed and ready my ankle (the one I had surgery on) hurt badly from all the walking around and I had to stay home that night. But I'm here for a year. so there's still enough time to go out. :)

Sunday was started with first skyping with my father and then skyping with one of my best friends. Afterwards I took the train into central London where I met up with my best friend Megan. She is an AuPair in England as well but since we live about an hour apart, we don't really get to see each other. She brought along three other girls from the town they live in. We first met up on Oxford street but quickly switched to Leicester Square. Later we wanted to join an AuPair picknick but with three hundred other girls their as well it seemed a bit ridiculous, so we stayed the five of us and picnicked by ourselves and later went to the London Eye to an ice cream at McDonalds. As it was already evening it was getting dark while we were enjoying our ice cream along the Thames. It was beautiful.

Und schon wieder ging ein wundervolles Wochenende viel zu schnell rum! Dieses Mal habe ich viele neue AuPairs getroffen und wir haben gemeinsam viele neue Teile Londons erkundet. 

Mein Wochenende ging Freitag Abend los. Gemeinsam mit zwei weiteren AuPairs aus meiner Umgebung: Saskia -auch aus Deutschland- und Erell aus Frankreich. Wir haben uns um neun an der Bahn Station in Kingston getroffen und habe uns von da auf die Suche nach einem uns ansprechenden Pub gemacht. Nach gut einer Stunde sind wir dann in einem Pub gelandet, der eine Mischung aus Pub und Club ist und direkt gegenüber des fast einzigen Clubs in Kingston liegt. Durch die eher laute und partymäßige Musik waren überwiegend Studenten in dem Pub, doch man konnte auch ein paar ältere Menschen an den Tischen sitzen sehen.
Zuerst haben wir uns an einen Tisch gesetzt, uns unterhalten und ein paar Cocktails genossen (für London sehr billig: 2 große Karaffen für 12Pfund). Nach ein paar Stunden fingen wir dann auch an zu tanzen und so gegen eins haben wir uns noch einmal auf die Suche nach etwas Essbarem gemacht. Weder McDonald's noch sonst irgendein Geschäft hatte auf. Das Einzige was wir nach einer halben Stunde Suchen finden konnten, war ein Subway. Kurz darauf sind wir dann auch nach Hause gefahren und ich bin gegen zwei hundemüde in mein Bett gefallen.

Samstag musste ich dann relativ früh aufstehen, da ich mich schon für zwölf Uhr mit Sara, einem italienischen AuPair, in Camden Town verabredet hatte. Dies ist ein Teil Londons, der für seinen verrückten Markt und einige gute Pubs und Clubs bekannt ist. Typisch England hat es direkt angefangen zu regnen, als ich aus der Tube Station kam und wir waren froh zuerst einmal den überdachten Teil des Marktes zu erkunden. Es gab die verschiedensten Klamotten, Schmuckartikel, etc. Aber alles in Vintage und alt. Als wir uns dann an die übermäßig vielen Essenstände gemacht haben, hatte es dann auch zum Glück schon aufgehört zu regnen. Nachdem wir beide unsere Pizza verspeist hatten, haben wir uns mit Saskia und einer Freundin von ihr getroffen. Den beiden haben wir dann noch mal die schönsten Teile des Marktes gezeigt und haben uns dann auf den Weg auf die Oxford Street gemacht, um Outfits für den Abend zu kaufen, da wir eigentlich feiern gehen wollten. Allerdings hatte ich dann so Probleme mit meinem operierten Knöchel, als ich zum Umziehen zu Hause war, dass ich leider doch nicht mit gehen konnte. Dafür aber dann hoffentlich nächste Woche!

Sonntag ging es dann für mich schon wieder nach London rein. Ich habe mich mit Megan und drei weiteren AuPairs aus ihrer Stadt getroffen. Die vier waren zuerst auf der Oxford Street um Geschenke zu suchen, wo ich dann auch zu ihnen hinzu gestoßen bin. Von da aus, sind wir aber relativ schnell zum Leicester Square und haben uns da ein wenig umgeschaut. Hängen geblieben sind wir dann bei einem sehr guten Straßenmusiker, der ungefähr in unserem Alter war. Von da aus ging es dann um drei zu einem geplanten AuPair Picknick. Als wir aber gemerkt haben, dass ungefähr 300 weitere Mädchen mit ihren eigenen Gruppen da waren, haben wir uns relativ schnell wieder von ihnen abgesetzt und weiter auf eigenen Faust die Stadt erkundet. Den Tag beendet haben wir dann mit einem Eis von McDonalds mit dem Blick auf Westminster Abby und Big Ben, während im Hintergrund die Sonne unterging. Es war wunderschön und es tat super gut, meine beste Freundin wieder zu sehen!
