Canary Wharf

Hey guys, 

These past two days I spent a lot of time exploring parts of London that aren't just the usual places to visit if you're only here for a few days. One of them was suggested to me by my English teacher: Canary wharf. It's a place in Central London, which is a complex of office buildings and shopping centers. My English teacher also told us that just in these few buildings there's as much money made as in the rest of the UK combined.

dieses Wochenende habe ich einige Zeit damit verbracht, Orte in London zu besuchen, welche man normalerweise nicht zu Gesicht bekommt, wenn man nur wenige Tage in London hat. 
Einer davon war ein Tip von meiner Englischlehrerin: Canary Wharf. Dies ist ein Bürogebäudekomplex in Cetral London, in welchem es außerdem noch einige Shops gibt. Meine Lehrerin hat uns auch noch erklärt, dass in diesen Gebäuden mehr Geld gemacht wird, als im kompletten Rest der UK zusammen. 

The first impression Sade and I had when we stepped out of the tube station was: "This looks like we're in New York!" All the buildings are unusually high for London and look very modern compared to other older building in London. But at the same time, Canary Wharf is very cute and idyllic and has a very charming flare with all the restaurants and pubs along the river. 

Den ersten Gedanken, den Sade und ich hatten, als wir aus der U-Bahn stiegen, war: "Oh, das sieht ja ein bisschen wie New York aus!". Die Gebäude sind ungewöhnlich hoch für London. Doch sobald man ein bisschen weiter geht, merkt man sofort, dass man an einem ganz anderen Ort ist. Sehr süß gestaltet geht es am Fluss an Restaurants und Pubs vorbei. 

A bit further along, one can see the tall building in the photo below. This is the building with the most offices inside. But on the lower floor, there's actually a small shopping center. From the point on where the photo is taken, you enter the building behind the fountain and from there on almost all buildings  are connected. 

Läuft man ein bisschen weiter und um die Ecke, kommt man zu dem Gebäude, welches im unteren Bild zu sehen ist. Dies ist das Größte von allen und hat neben zig Büros der verschiedensten Firmen auch einige Shops im Erdgeschoß. Außerdem sind von da aus sehr viele Gebäude miteinander verbunden. 

Shocker of the day: It's not even Halloween yet and the first shops already put out the Christmas decorations! 

Schock des Tages: Obwohl noch lange nicht Halloween ist, hatte das erste Geschäft schon Weihnachtsdeko zum Verkauf ausgelegt. 

In between the office buildings there's loads of green areas, which makes this place very idyllic. And since we came here on Sunday, nobody else was around. It was creepily quiet for London but we did enjoy it. 

Zwischen den Gebäuden kann man einige grüne Stellen finden, welche das ganze doch sehr idyllisch machen. Da wir an einem Sonntag hier her kamen, war absolut niemand anderes hier und wir konnten eine Stille genießen, die man sonst so nicht von London gewohnt ist. 

From here, we could also see the O2-Arena. Since we were both very interested in going there as well, we made our way there. It was absolutely impressive and on our way, we found one of the most beautiful ( in my opinion ) places in London. But I'm going to show you that in another post. 

Von hier aus haben wir auch die O2-Arena entdeckt und da wir beide noch nie wirklich da waren, haben wir uns auf den Weg gemacht. Unterwegs sind wir noch auf einen der schönsten (meiner Meinung nach ) Orte in London getroffen. Aber davon werde ich euch in einem weigern Post erzählen.
